“Homa (हवन)” is Sanskrit for “sacred fire ritual”.

The home smoke ceremony contains powerful healing energy; purify the atmosphere and negative karma. It offers to the fire sacred materials that contain specific natural energies that are transformed by flames and prayers. Fire is sacred in many spiritual traditions, and it has been used in religious rites for thousands of years. Along with water, earth, air and space, fire is one of the five essential elements that make up all living things. In the Vedas, Agni is the messenger between people and their gods, and the personification of sacrificial fire. Sanskrit mantras and prayers are recited during the ceremony, which are often performed during auspicious astrological moments. In modern Hinduism, fire ceremonies still play an integral role in daily worship and are used as a symbolic form of communication and honoring the divine. It is believed that everything that is offered to Agni, the sacred fire, reaches the gods.
